Traceability and transparency are two things that are often missing in the food industry as a whole, let alone the fishing industry. It really doesn’t cost more and Jared Auerbach is proving that it is possible. The Northeast has some of the best waters and seafood in the world, however people might be surprised to learn that only 10% of the seafood in the Northeast is sourced locally. Jared says this is happening for a couple of reasons.

Jared started Reds Best as a way to help sustain the business of small fishing, from the people to the towns and the boats. They have become masters at unloading a lot of little boats quickly. They are focused on providing the freshest and highest quality products from the local fisherman that they work so hard to sustain. (27 minute discussion)
As consumers, we should want know and understand where what we are eating comes from. We should be asking more questions and allowing mother nature to dictate the food we eat. If it’s not in season or locally produced we should make adjustments in our habits and not vice-versa.
